Hello Sifu Kol, no you aint wrong at all, Kung Fu was meant to be about combat sadly forms are taught and 2 mans which isn't always YOUR WAY of fighting. To change the art by adding some of your own way is perfect and should be encouraged by many. Many forms are added to by different generations and changed over time. Many forms teach combat movements but many of those forms train certain powers and attributes for combat. Self defence techniques (like joint locks and holds) are different to boxing or (striking skills in our arts) and one must be able to differentiate the two. Many of the old generation couldn't fight or never did a competition to test themselves. One teacher can be a good coach but cannot fight and many fighters cannot teach. Like wise do your thing buddy, cause these arts are just a dance without the combat side. Forms won't provide the health benefits only some movement for the body work the mind, when combat training brings better health that is why most fighters that DO train like fighters are strong and ripped....look at Thai boxers, boxers, ufc fighters for example compared to kung fu guys that only do forms. How many over weight fat teachers does kung fu need??? If taiji and internal arts bring health and longevity it surely doesn't show.....you do your thing and better your art and students for real combat. As Sifus we have a responsibly to do so..... I was able to decode all the locks and ground fighting form in YKM because of Hap Ki Do. I stopped Hap Ki Do because I was into competition and benny the jet was one of my idols and wanted to do kick boxing so I started kickboxing under sifu John suttle and Yau kung mun because of the full contact kung fu competitions I used to go watch and loved the old jack chan movies. Jackie chan did bak Mei!

@@fiercesttiger I saw a clip where they said Jackie Chan did a Bak Mei form on a TV show but he hid it so well I couldn't recognize a single thing. How much Bak Mei did he learn and what's his lineage? Was it the style of he and Samo's teacher at the Peking Opera school?

yes Hap Ki Do has ground techniques they are the joint locking kings IMHO, Hap Ki Do was a combination of aikido, judo, kung fu, karate, kendo, iado, so I was taught and how it was presented but Korean way. 13 people limit that year for dive rolling (break falling)

That is a great question I think so I lean towards that myself speaking to my students lately about this version of WC. I haven't done it since the 80s but im gonna polish it back up and put it out there. I started Yau Kung Mun after my teacher went back to china for this WC, so my body shape and power is Hakka Bak Mei etc Also this wc version uses Fau chum tun to just like Hakka arts round back like dragons....I could say the same for some hung gar looks like Hakka too....ive only just started training it again so im rusty as but not for long! thanks for the question brother. :)

The book will be great, we close to finishing but still so much to do, plus there is 3 books on BP that will be done. This has been challenging due to the amount of information I saved from GMDW on my old usb so Chris has had a hell of a job to get the information into order and write the book. As for that other person no one cares and sooner or later his students will see he has zero knowledge and skill, not my monkeys not my circus.

If my neck injury was ok for sure always up for it, unfortunately if my neck cracks from a head shot the doctors and surgeons say I could die from a heart attack. So for now no sparring but I would have been up for it always happy to do some. Ive had many say friendly then try to take you out so that hmmm some people have ego and if losing like to try beat you or go harder than friendly.

@@fiercesttiger I feel you my man, I am younger than you, but I have issues with arthritis through my spine and neck. That's why I had to quit Judo, it'd be too easy for me to end up paralysed from an injury caused by a forceful twist, or a bad throw or choke with the lack of mobility in my neck. It's not easy, but it's always good when we can keep training around these issues in some way, that's why I keep it up in the ways that I can.
